Power for your campervan: electrical and solar systems
Discover custom electrical wiring and solar energy (solar panel) solutions for your campervan for uninterrupted comfort and independence on your journeys.
Campervan Electrical Systems: The Key to Modern Living
In modern campervans, the electrical system is not a luxury but a necessity. A properly planned and expertly implemented electrical system allows you to enjoy living comfort close to that of your home. You need a reliable campervan electrical installation for all modern needs, from lighting and cooling to entertainment systems and communication devices.

Basic Electrical System Components
The living batteries, which are the heart of the system, provide stored electrical energy. AGM, gel, and lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are the most preferred types in modern campervans. Lithium batteries offer longer lifespan, lighter structure, and higher discharge depth.
These are protective devices that prevent batteries from overcharging or discharging. Especially in solar systems, MPPT type regulators maximize energy efficiency.
These devices optimize the energy drawn from the alternator while the engine is running to safely and efficiently charge the leisure batteries. They are critical for fully charging leisure batteries, especially in new vehicles with Euro 5/6 engines due to smart alternators.
12V DC (direct current) electricity converts the 220V AC (alternating current) electricity used in homes, allowing you to operate household appliances (laptop, TV, coffee maker, etc.). Full sine wave inverters are more suitable for sensitive electronic devices.
A system that allows you to connect to grid electricity (typically 220V AC) at campsites or other external sources. This connection enables you to charge your batteries and operate high-power devices directly.
They are vital for system safety. They automatically cut the circuit in case of overload or short circuit, protecting both your devices and your campervan. The appropriate fuse value must be used for each circuit.
Solar Systems: Your Independent Power Source
Campervan solar (photovoltaic) systems have completely transformed the camping experience. Meeting your electricity needs using solar energy is both economical and environmentally friendly. With a properly sized campervan solar package, you can stay freely in nature without depending on campsites.
Expert Recommendation: Design your solar panel system to meet at least 30% more than your daily consumption needs. This extra capacity will be life-saving for cloudy days, winter months, and unexpected energy demands.
Solar System Components
Modules that convert sunlight directly into electrical energy (DC). Available in monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and flexible/thin-film variants. Monocrystalline panels are recommended for campervans due to their higher efficiency, given limited roof space.
"Maximum Power Point Tracking" refers to smart devices that optimize the variable voltage and current from solar panels to charge batteries most efficiently. They offer higher efficiency than PWM types.
For safe and efficient operation of the system, connection components such as UV-protected solar cables of the correct gauge (thickness) and quality MC4 connectors must be used. Incorrect wiring can lead to energy loss and safety risks.
Special fixtures that allow solar panels to be mounted aerodynamically and securely on the campervan roof. Using appropriate marine-grade mastic is crucial for waterproofing.
System Design and Consumption Calculation
Every campervan has different electrical and solar system requirements. A custom system must be designed considering your travel style, accommodation duration, electric appliances used (refrigerator, Webasto, hydrofor, etc.), and seasonal conditions.

Electrical Installation Safety Measures
- Make all connections with non-flammable marine-type cables at the correct cross-section.
- Route the 12V and 220V lines through separate channels.
- Use appropriate NH, blade or automatic fuses for the system.
- For 220V, definitely use a residual current device (RCD).
- In campervans that will not be used for long periods, disconnect the main switch or battery terminals.

FAQ Questions
This depends entirely on your daily energy consumption. Typically, we recommend a minimum of 2 monocrystalline panels (205W each) and a living battery bank with a capacity of 200Ah for standard panel van equipment (refrigerator, Webasto, hydrofor, lighting).
Lithium batteries (especially LiFePO4) have a much longer lifespan than gel batteries (more charge-discharge cycles), are lighter in terms of size/weight ratio, and you can use up to 90% of their capacity without voltage drop. They are definitely more economical in the long run.
If you have basic 12V knowledge, you can perform simple lighting connections. However, 220V inverter connections, DC-DC charger wiring, and panel-battery grouping require expertise. An incorrect connection can lead to results ranging from minor issues to the campervan catching fire. We recommend receiving professional support at our Izmir workshop.
